          Holiday

Dear Uncle Sam, I was thinking of sending you a Christmas card.
But I’m writing this letter instead just to say to you: Now you’ve gone too far.

Being selective ain’t protecting our freedom nor defending the American way
Just remember when you wave old Glory it wasn’t sewn with a stitch of gray.

(Chorus):
And hey Uncle Sam, while you’re burning that midnight oil and passing laws
I’ll be spending some time with Jesus while others folks play Santa Claus
There’s no need to deck the halls of Congress
Just tell the Senate they’ll be working late
If you’re taking the ‘Christ’ out of Christmas
You’re taking “Holy” out of Holiday.

II
Have you changed your mind about leading our nation...under God?
It seems to me that we have spoiled the child yeah we spared the rod.

Just to satisfy some non-believers
that forbid other people to pray
& give thanks to “HIM” who gave himself
instead of giving up and walking away

Hey uncle Sam while you’re burning that midnight oil and passing laws
I’ll be spending some time with Jesus while other folks play Santa Claus
There’s no need to deck the halls of congress
Tell the Senate they’ll be working late
If your taking the Christ out of Christmas
You’ve got no reason for a Holiday
Bridge:
It might look good on paper the separation of the church and state
If you’re taking Christ out of Christmas, you’re taking Holy out of Holiday
If you’re taking Christ out of Christmas, you’re taking Holy out of Holiday.

Where Someone Said Goodbye

Flowers & crosses on a highway
somebody built a shrine
Just a reminder of a sad, sad day
Thank God it wasn’t mine.
Four lanes of tail lights stacked in front of me
For What?  Forever in hurry
It’s Four O’clock, who can spare the time?

Chorus:

Will anybody change their direction?
Will anybody change their mind?
& add some depth to their perception
There’s more at hand than meets the eye.
That’s where someone said: “ Good bye”.

If I could walk across the water
things would never be the same
I would return a deadman’s daughter
& revive another lamb that was slain
But I can’t change a man’s tomorrow
 I can’t even change a lane.
But I can recognize his sorrow
& honor what remains...

  I Don’t Need

I’m down in the dirt, but I’m cleaner now than I was yesterday
Cause I’ve washed my hands of circumstance and whatever you say
The scars on my face pass for beauty lying there in thin disguise
The blood I can taste is sweeter than all of your lies

The sun burns my skin but it’s fading now in the evening glow
I don’t know what from when, but I’ve forgotten more than you know
I’m out on the ledge I bet you’re hoping that I’ll tumble and die, tumble and die
I’m over the edge and I’m laughing cause I’m learning to fly

Chorus:     And I don’t need two arms to touch somebody
And I don’t need two lips to say a prayer
And I don’t need my eyes to have a vision
The deal was struck, boy and I was standing there!

The bruise on my head from long ago is healing fast
I’ve resurrected a memory of the First and Last
So you could rip me limb from limb, smile and watch me bleed
But, I gave it up in a sacrifice and it’s been given back to me

Chorus: 2x

New Horse/Next Race

Got this parade marching through my mind.
Every observation seems so unkind.
I need something new
I’ve outgrown this place
It’s time I move on, lay new money on..
New Horse, Next race.

Each thought I chase just brings me back.
I’ve come full circle around the same old track.
Need something new I’ve outgrown this pace
It’s time I move on, lay new money on..
A New Horse, Next race.

Bridge:
The odds are stacked in my favor
no fear, it’s all in my mind.
I’m betting on anything better
but winning means crossing the line.

I’m on my mark ready for the ride
Win, place, or show I’ve laid doubt aside.
Need something new, I’ve outgrown this pace
It’s time I move on, lay new money on...
A New Horse/Next Race.
